- A three-day exposure visit programme for 52 farmers of watershed area
was organised for livelihood support activity and water body structure
from May 8 to 11, 2012.
- Fourteen stop dams have been completed in seven of the project
villages.
- SHGs profiling of the first draft has been completed for Kashi,
Kaimoor and Mirzapur under JICA Market research and a business plan (micro
plan for SHG) is being prepared in Hindi under the JICA market Research.
- A total of 350 farmers have been registered against the 500 target of
the quarter in the month of April 2012 only.
- EPA activity has started in two villages and layout done in another
four villages and work is slated to start immediately.

TARA Livelihood Academy

TLA has conducted a 15 days’ training for the Watershed
Committee Presidents’ Secretaries at TARAgram, Orchha on May 7-21, 2012
under the Intregrated Watershed Development Project of the Rajiv Gandhi
Watershed Mission, Bhopal. A total of 29 participants have participated in
this training programme.

The TARA Scholarship Exam 2012 was organised at village
Raksa on May 20, 2012 through the Vocation Training Centre. This
examination saw the participation of 120 entrants.

The Community Training Centre (CTC) was inaugurated at
village Rajapur near Jhansi on May 28, 2012 with a training programme on
Beauty Culture and Hair Dressing.

Under the Village Electrification through Sustainable
Energy project, two plants were commissioned in Behratola and Bakhriwa in
the Vindhyachal Cluster.

Behratola is ensuring power supply to 112 households on
an average for three hours per day for at least 20 days per month. VEC has
been formally taking ownership in plant operations such as revenue
collection activity. In the months of March - April 2012, the VEC has made
revenue collection of about Rs 3650 from 32 households.

A notification for the establishment of a task force
for the promotion of clean and low carbon brick technologies was passed by
the Government of Bihar on May 9, 2012. The decision to set up a task
force was taken by the Secretary, Department of Environment and Forest to
leverage the work being done through the project ‘Accelerating Clean and
Low Carbon Technologies in the Indian Brick Sector’ by Development
Alternatives (DA), supported by the Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation.
The task force will work on increasing awareness, demonstration for
producers and consumers and favourable policy regime in the sphere of
clean brick production.

A contract has been signed with the International Union
for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) on May 15, 2012 to carry out a project
on ‘Mangroves Conservation and Management: Enhancing Livelihood
Opportunities for Mangrove-dependent Communities in Bhitarkanika Reserve
Forest’. The 10-month project is being implemented by DA in partnership
with Bharat Integrated Social Welfare Agency (BISWA).

On May 23, 2012 a meeting was held with the Planning
Commission and UN agencies for the review of activities related to
National Resource Cell for District Planning (NRCDP). The knowledge
repository prepared under this project has been highly appreciated among
the members of the Planning Commission. The official launch of the website
will take place in the last week of June 2012.

- The third elimination round of the Rural Reality Show (Koun Banega
Shubh Kal Leader) was organised on May 22, 2012. Out of 25 groups, 10
groups have now been selected for the fourth round.
- On May 22, 2012 the Development Alternatives Group, has received a
Corporate Social Responsibility grant from Ford Motors for addressing
drinking water and sanitation needs of schools and communities in seven
villages in Chennai. Around 3,000 girl students will benefit from safe
sanitation practices as a result of installation of toilets in the
schools. This project will build on the experience of the nation-wide
Community Led Environment Action Network (CLEAN-India) programme.
